Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe… What we believe determines what we take to be true.
David Bohm
Week 9/52 was about identifying micro-steps of living more of what I desire + (coping) in the midst of situations I cannot change. The many limits and undesired outcomes of this week reminded me to trust that what is mine cannot be missed, taken or otherwise lost.
Having a sense of structure in place makes “it is easier to thrive and flourish” (Julia Cameron). My creative structure (sequences and task lists + compiling these weekly summaries of what I am reading and observing) serves me as both a balm and compass.
We are guided as we are willing to be guided. A habit of self-trust is the result of our listening and our obedience to what we hear.
Julia Cameron
I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see and what it means.
Joan Didion
Joan Didion recalls her mother giving her a Big Five tablet when she was 5-years-old, with the suggestion that she “stop whining and learn to amuse [herself] by writing down [her] thoughts.” As someone with an immense (often overwhelming) capacity for empathy this scenario resonates with me deeply on so many levels. As a daughter of the seventies (and parents who practiced “free range parenting” long before there was terminology for it) I spent a lot of time unsupervised (alone) and outdoors. I learned early on in my life to keep my thoughts and stories to myself, and to find solace living in my own imaginary world
The positive actions we choose to take, however small, will ultimately lead us to create a deeply thoughtful, handmade life.
Julia Cameron
No matter how deeply we have been wounded, when we listen to the inner voice that calls us back to our bodies, back to wholeness, we begin our journey.
Tara Brach
Though we do not wholly believe it yet, the interior life is a real life, and the intangible dreams of people have a tangible effect on the world.

Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold | Editor Ann Collins Delves into the Opening Scene of “Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold” | Joan Didion interview (1992) regarding “After Henry,” which examines news events, including the Central Park jogger case, and the impact of those cases on our lives. “See enough and write it down, I tell myself, and then some morning when the world seems drained of wonder, some day when I am only going through the motions of doing what I am supposed to do… on that bankrupt morning I will simply open my notebook and there it will all be, a forgotten account with accumulated interest, paid passage back to the world out there…” (Joan Didion reads “On Keeping a Notebook”)

our waking
