[week 17/52] connections, expansion & new chapters

Perhaps making the most of this life right here doesn’t have to be about big achievements or changes, but instead, it is an opportunity to find joy, to take part, and to keep trying in small ways, time and again.

Having a sense of structure in place makes “it is easier to thrive and flourish” (Julia Cameron). My creative structure (sequences and task lists + compiling these weekly summaries of what I am reading and observing) serves me as both a balm and compass.

Even if life unfolds unexpectedly, there is still the possibility of goodness. And when you courageously embrace change you will begin to discover how there is room for new chapters that contain new possibilities. You will begin to realize that you are free to keep going, knowing that “keep going,” doesn’t mean rushing ahead, but it’s an opportunity to recognize that just like a novelist writing the next chapter, you’re allowed to keep the pen to the page.

One of the most interesting things about wind is that even though it’s impossible to see it, you can still take notice of everything it affects. … Perhaps thinking of calm like wind can take the pressure off of needing the calm to “work” perfectly…as something that has varying degrees of impact, and we are free to pause and look for it over and over again.

Morgan Harper Nichols’ Storyteller app is one of my favorites! ♥ Her writings and art for April have been especially insightful and comforting as I hold this space of home repairs and personal transition:

  • “When your life’s story doesn’t end up unfolding in the way you thought it would, that doesn’t mean that it won’t be good. … Even the most seemingly subtle shift can have a new chapter.”
  • “You don’t have to remember every single moment that you’ve been learning to be courageous.”

Happiness is in the quiet, ordinary things. A table, a chair, a book with a paper-knife stuck between the pages. And the petal falling from the rose, and the light flickering as we sit silent.

The answers are not “out there” — they are within us [as artists] … The universe is waiting to collaborate with us.

Allow yourself to notice any little thing that feels like growth or healing, and know that you are free to stay attuned for moments when it comes up again and again.

The new things you try and the way you allow yourself to be curious even before you have that sense of focus aren’t separate ‘little things.’ They are connections that matter. Bridges that enrich and illuminate new possibilities on the journey.
