[week 16/52] words, wholeness and understanding

Words are events, they do things, change things. They transform both speaker and hearer; they feed energy back and forth and amplify it. They feed understanding or emotion back and forth and amplify it.

Ursula K. Le Guin

Having a sense of structure in place makes “it is easier to thrive and flourish” (Julia Cameron). My creative structure (sequences and task lists + compiling these weekly summaries of what I am reading and observing) serves me as both a balm and compass.

Because we know their power, we ask of words to hold what we cannot hold — the complexity of experience, the polyphony of voices inside us narrating that experience, the longing for clarity amid the confusion.

  • I worked in my wild gardens; refreshed my knowledge of companion planting.
  • I purged more items from the storage bins in my garage.
  • My attention (focus) was redirected (via a collection of Instagram posts in a surprising way) and I began to view the past 33+ years from a new (healing and restorative) perspective.
    • Life rarely goes as we think (wish) it will.
    • Sometimes what gets broken stays broken.
    • What is truly ours cannot be missed or taken.
    • Curiosity is a form of hope; it is a way to step outside of your framework of understanding.

In language, all things are possible. Which means that no emotion is untranslatable. No sorrow is too obscure to define. We just have to do it. … Despite what dictionaries would have us believe, this world is still mostly undefined.

Transition creates vulnerability. The safety of the old life has been set aside. The safety of the new life is not yet in place.

The moment I stop being curious, I stop having empathy. … Without curiosity, what motivation do any of us have to explore, change, and grow?
