purpose & the alchemy of creativity

“I needed to find and pursue my singular purpose—one that was meaningful to me, and had an impact on others, and also told the world, I’m a person of value. I needed to choose the correct path, preferably yesterday but by tomorrow at the very least. My eighty-year-old self depended on it.” -Suleika Jaouad

  • Later today, I will be discussing the “On Purpose” chapter of The Book of Alchemy by Suleika Jaouad with kindred friends. Reading this chapter allowed me to revisit the transitions, heart-breaking realities and healing revelations of that decade.
  • Then my children became adults, moving into their own lives and purposes. Each of them always living several states away (and one of my sons lived in Japan for three years).
  • Suddenly it became apparent that the family dinners, birthday and holiday celebrations I had envisioned were not going to be possible.

“I journaled without any expectation of what those pages [about purpose] would become.” -Suleika Jaouad

That practice eventually led me to edit my story, and to prioritize what gives me joy—and fosters my curiosity.

“I do not confine myself to a single purpose—it changes every day.” -Suleika Jaouad

It is absolutely vital to stay open and curious—and to trust ourselves and our pace.

My purpose is to be and do whatever I need to foster my well-being.

  • questions and wishes
  • keywords and phrases
  • daydreams and nighttime dreams
  • what we feel and think
  • what we want to experience
  • what we need to foster our well-being
  • what we want to discover and learn about

⭐️ I am an artist and curator; I am one who communicates with color, found words and collage, inky marks and doodles as I cycle like the moon (as my calendar), chronicling oracles and abiding with the sky as a meditation.

⭐️ I host creative communities, safe spaces for gathering and sharing. I choose love and creativity for coping with the ongoing challenges of this world and I go to work—not because everything is fine but because I believe art heals.

  • This is possible, in part, by {you} and your presence here. But also because of the support of my Ko-fi patrons and the other member/subscriber communities I host (via their presence, input and paid subscriptions). 🫶
