Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now. ~Goethe

There are a number of baby-step changes I have made to adapt to living with a roller coaster level of energy and mental focus: index cards, my “right brain planner” art cards, Post-it® notes, timers and even a 3×3 wooden frame for {micromovement} gardening! ;)

Tammy of Daisy Yellow started a marvelous index-card-a-day challenge last summer! I love it! One card. Every day.

I created collages, upcycled cards {from various card-like elements, including coupon cards, product packaging and a restaurant’s promo table tent — to name a few!} and 2.5 months of creative and practical art!

Because {most days} the flip side of my cards recorded To-Do’s, journal entries, mind maps, lists and basically: all things right brain planning! I have always utilized different sizes of index cards for personal and business planning, but now these cards are much more appealing! And stored in Starbucks Via boxes and candy boxes and.or included in my altered book and planner pages. ;)

I cannot change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination. ~Jimmy Dean

My rocket man constructed this small wooden frame for me so I could focus on a 3′x3′ area at a time — instead of becoming overwhelmed with pruning, weeding or otherwise clearing my overgrown gardens. {Due to MS, I have to limit physical exertion and my time outside, especially in the summer heat.}

I view acceptance as a creative frame: a way of assessing limits in “frames” … resisting the urge to allow such things to be limitations {restrictions}.

Having frames, tangible and in my mind’s eye, allow me to have a realistic {easy to decipher} way of coping {and overcoming}. That was definitely reinforced for me during my “Month of One” focus in May; and in keeping a one-word journal this month, allowing less to be more or certainly enough.

One word journal/card pages. Now I can do that!

Teresa, I’m thrilled that the index card challenge motivated such positivity! I started a process at the beginning of 2011 that I’ve stuck with. Each night, I type into my notepad app 3 “good things” that I did that day. Three proactive things I did to benefit self or family. Sometimes it’s just that I cooked a good dinner. It has helped me focus on what I do, rather than what I don’t do.

I’m wanting to attempt the index card adventure. I’m thinking that every time I get out my art journaling supplies I will work on a card. For me. For others. Or just for fun. :) Thanks for this.

Love these ideas, and I was planning on doing the ICAD challenge but I pooped out on the plan. :P Now to get back to it!

Mandy! You can do anything, girlie! And I love your Wonder Woman lunchbox that you are storing your mini-art in!

Tammy, that is fabulous idea! What a positive reinforcer for baby steps. ♥

Willow, the card you created for me with the Hafiz quote is always nearby. I love your artistic expressions.

Christine, thank you! I simply keep index cards on my desk and create ‘em as the inspirations come. #norules

Today is a day getting done in 15 minute steps, because that is what my anxiety needed this morning to get started and cross the start line at least. This post is beautiful and so inspiring.

And a one word journal…stellar idea.

Just as an aside, when I took a moment just now to really reflect on your star gardener moniker, that I see regularly on my feed but clearly just “see”, it is the most magical name to inspire imagination. Who wouldn’t want to garden stars!! I won’t ever just see your moniker again.

15-minute steps … I know those kind, Natasha. What a relief to know I am not the only one. :D

Thanks so much for your kind comment. ♥

Great post! Love the frame idea and meaning behind/within it. I am all for small movements.. we forget that small movemnts on a consistent basis lead into good and even great things.. but we so often put it off unitil we have more time, money etc… learning these days just to get started even if I am inching towards the life I want to create!

Yes! I agree, Heather! Baby steps definitely count as we move in the direction of our dreams.
