My latest altered book: a 3-year, 1-2 line, daily, visual-journal.

My latest altered book is a 3-year, 1-2 line, daily, visual-journal …

Yep. I have allowed myself another option for journaling {another altered book}. I was sorting the vintage book inventory for The Art Journaler to select a book for the next altered book kit, and this book “spoke” to me.

“How did your day go?”

I am already sorta like a junkie when I check my phone for the daily, “How did your day go?”  e-mail prompt from ohlife.com ;) … Being that somehow it is the only journal I was able to keep every day {for almost one year}. I like reading the daily {one-liner} notes from the past year, typed day-by-day in using my iPhone before sleep each day.

And it is of comfort to be at a place that I have the mental {and emotional} space to allow myself to ponder as far as 2015 in my thoughts of my personal Next. To anticipate what notations will be handwritten in the coming years …

I used Gesso to prep pages; and a Sharpie marker and a template to map out spaces for notations and the occasional sketch or image, as well as leaving random phrases of the book text uncovered or the addition of collage elements and handwritten quotations.

The concept of a 3-year journal is to record notations for a day at a time {on the same page} for three years. With each year’s passing, the journaler can review the prior year(s) as new entries are written.

I will add bookmarks {a beaded, leather cord and a Sari silk ribbon} to this journal, and allow August 14th to be my start day. {I also want to add special pages to record book titles, personal mile markers or special events for these years.}

I love the book title, The Narrow Corner, and its cover …

and there were passages that captured my attention …

I had already been brainstorming ways to have a journal on my bedside table for quick jots of thoughts about the day before sleep. I have been doing week-at-a-glance collage pages, and in July I completed a month-at-a-glance calendar with that goal in mind … {link: images & blog post} But I kept these 8×11.5 pages my large altered book journal, which led to it being somewhat cumbersome for my night table. :?

This altered book is a great fit, and I love its presence being a prompt to note brief notations of the day. I keep a fine point Sharpie pen and a pair of my reading glasses with it for convenience, too! ;)

Braveheart, my journals serve me in countless ways. But mainly to empower me to live with intention — to mark my progress and the discoveries within {one wild and precious} life. Do I ever reread them? Sometimes. But the act of imprinting my mind {and my heart} and pages with my syllables is typically enough.

This 3-year journal will allow me to reread and remember … just how far baby steps carried me.
