Knowing what you want

by stargardener

You do not succeed because you do not know what you want or you don’t want it intensely enough. ~Frank Crane

I have a swirled response to that idea. Because sometimes knowing what you want becomes a work-in-progress, and the passionate intensity with which you pursue it is indeed {enough}. You simply are not “there” yet! ;-)

You are merely collecting and weaving selected “threads” to creAte the homespun yarn  in which you will fashion the next phase of your success. Succeeding — accomplishing your intended goal(s) in succession — is a process {visual: the yarn in the image}:

  • multi-threaded
  • handspun {What is handspinning?}
  • unique result from a standardized process
  • art {creAtive but deliberate combination of elements}

A handspun yarn also tells you a story about the person who made it. You run your fingers down the yarn, and you feel the impressions made by the hand of the spinner. ~pluckyfluff.com

How do you determine what you want?

Are you willing to admit {and embrace} that what you want is a more of a journey than a destination?

What stories do your proverbial handspun yarns tell?

I love thinking of life in terms of hand-spun yarn. What we want IS a process (let’s face it…so many time when we get what we *think* we wanted it’s a bit of a letdown). Thus, we must find joy in the moment while keeping one eye peeking toward the future. :-)

Joy in the moment, indeed! (Even when we are holding on with a white-knuckled grip riding the roller-coaster of life!)

Besides, the process of adding in color and different threads adds an element of serendipity — which is always oh-so sweet and full of surprise and wonder! ;-)

yeah, and where’s the answer?! i was hoping for an answer… why is there no answer??
;-) bit desperate here… i know the road we’re on is far more important than the destination, but i find it so hard to find something to aim for to start with… but then: do i really have to?! i don’t know…

thanx for the thought provoking post!!

We all desperately seek to know that answer, Dan … And often we answer it {multiple times} without notice. ;)

It is the journey that teaches us what we need to know about the destination. {Which includes lessons we are reluctant to study, or believe we have already learned.} I consider it a treasure hunt. Even if it feels as though I am creating a map as I go along …

Our life-story to this moment-in-time is our map; we begin there … Reflecting upon the events, feelings and people of our lives. Within those reflections, we discover what we were drawn to as well as what repelled us. We identify what we do not want to do again — as well as what was of comfort, or empowering and inspiration for us.

From these reflections, we map our way and carve away at our proverbial block of clay, the one labeled: Life. Because it is the journey that teaches what we need to know about the destination {what the final sculpture will look like}.
