[what is a simple way to begin creative planning?]

planning cards, circa 2014 // add collage, doodles and bits of note to your index planning card

“I don’t know where to begin. I become overwhelmed with all the choices and never get started. What is a simple way to begin creative planning?”

Short answer: an index card, a pen and a daily check-in.

Long answer + some creative ideas …

weekly index card for Week 3/52 of 2016

Simple lines of notations or a collage of notes attached to an index card is a quick way to begin a weekly planning practice.

Index cards are essential elements of my creative planning practice. I use index cards to divide monthly and weekly tasks, project details and action steps as a creative, tactile reminder of the importance of baby steps toward progress.

I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way — things I had no words for. -Georgia O’Keeffe

Utilize colorful Post-it® note pads by collecting daily or weekly notes on a single index card. Adding varied colored notes as the week progresses.

Cut out dated elements from a calendar or planner to add to your index planning card(s):

PROMPT: Use ONE index card for this week’s journal-planner.

  • Jot down the dates/days of the week as the week progresses; add different colorful Post-it® notes as needed.
    • include notes about the weather, or your mood, or your to-do list or grocery list
    • add a favorite quote from a book or article, or another source (online, a conversation with a friend, etc.)
  • Optional collage an image or strips of color; add Washi tape, paint or doodles.
  • If you purchased the Right Brain Planner® 2017 Kit you could attach the weekly letter template to the backside of your index card.

I didn’t like my handwritten header, so I collaged over it and used my date stamp. And I added the letter box template from the 2017 Right Brain Planner® Kit to the back side.

added dated squares from a promotional calendar rec’d at the grocery store + tiny strips of color, some notes and text from printed materials

Braveheart, I believe art heals — and that art is as simple as abiding outdoors with the morning sky or jotting lists or having a favorite color. I created Right Brain Planner™ because I needed a "planner" that offered space but didn't trigger my daily expectations. I needed a planner that was a journal — a place to creatively document my {living} + collect my blurts and random collage. Perhaps you are in need of the same? If so, I hope you will join me via our shared online connections. ♥
