Anyone got the time?

by stargardener

mr-jones-average-dayIn our busyness, we deceive ourselves into believing that we have no time for the activities we enjoy, the goals we dream about — for creativity, for rest … for just plain fun! ;-)

However, slow and steady wins the race! Especially for those of us who periodically run w-a-y too fast in various directions! Despite my own periodic randomness, my focus has been to overcome this malady; I am. Albeit, ever-so slow-ly.

Tools that have assisted me in {finding time}.

Read: Tools that reduce the time spent looking for miscellaneous pieces of paper, project notes, etc.

  1. Master List — My first choice: a wipe-off board and various colors of pens :!: … (Other options: a notepad, smart phone notes, Evernote, voice notes, etc.) This facilitates keeping related notes in one (1) place.
  2. Project Tracker — Mine started as series of Post-it® note updates (of tasks completed, ideas in-process, mile markers) and is slowly “graduating” to a tabbed section of my collage journal. Again, this facilitates the “all notes in one (1) place” concept …
  3. Other Ideas — Compile daily to-do’s, notations and status reports in a separate {bound} notebook or journal, a Word document or an Excel spreadsheet. Do you see the theme? One (1) Place :!:

One-Place order reduces our randomness. Thankfully, order doesn’t have to be confining. Furthermore, creAtive order contributes to more completed (and less forgotten) tasks; it facilitates continuity and strategic thoughts and planning — and accomplishment of those creAtive want-to’s.

While time flies, said time can also fly round-trip! ;-)

Meaning: Even when we move through an entire day and have very little tangible evidence of said day, our creative wanderings, procrastinations and outright moments of being stuck can prove essential elements of the proverbial process! Truly! In other words:

What we believe to be “lost” returns to us as a dividend on our initial investment of time, task and talent.

Which is where notations on wipe-off board(s) and project tracker(s) and via other tools prove to be both the detective and guard dog of our time. These tools allow us to “find” time and prevent it from becoming “lost” — to mark “resume points” and {rest stops} along the scenic winding path in the direction of our dreams.

It is not that creAtively-minded and right brain dominant thinkers cannot be organized or accomplished — it is about collecting the proper tools for our Life Gardens. And adapting existing tools, ideas and techniques — or even inventing them! ;-)
