52 Weeks of Noting {collage and creative record} 6/52

652 card

Over time, the life of a productive artist becomes filled with useful conventions and practical methods, so that a string of unfinished pieces continues to appear at the surface … They allow confidence and concentration. They allow not knowing. They allow the automatic and unarticulate to remain so. Once you have found the work you are meant to do, the particulars of any single piece don’t matter all that much. ~Art & Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking

This was THE week! I celebrated a birth day milestone and I opened my Etsy shop! :::::: cues the band // flings confetti ::::::

And while the card appears basic {brief in content} — it will prompt me to remember all of this …

no more spectating

Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

This week involved moving through the {exhilarating and terrifying and paralyzing} “consequences” to my decision to do instead of watching. The administrative details of listing {and processing} items for sale in my Etsy shop. [Watching vs doing confronting the spectator problem] …

The alternative to being a spectator involves failure and apparent risk. It means that you will encounter people who accuse you of hubris and flying too high, people who are eager to point out the loose thread on your jacket or the flaw in your reasoning. ~Seth Godin

talking to myself

I talked to myself {and I was so relieved when I learned my friend, Janae did too}; and wrote notes to myself … Determined to apply what I knewwhat I would say to anyone … but dared only to mentally whisper to myself. To remind myself about {accepting joy unspeakable}when I resist believing such a reality exists. Because {my} Luna Rain says it does.

Real joy found me like she’s supposed to, and she’s not made of sunshine, but I like that about her. She’s mysterious and darker than I expected. ~rain ::

02 miss-takes

Mistakes are the portals of discovery. ~James Joyce

And there was the ceremonial {acceptance} of miss-takes about postal mail details//costs and the time involved with actually putting ideas into actions. That like the disclaimer on google maps: “These directions are for planning purposes only. You may find that construction projects, traffic, weather, or other events may cause conditions to differ from the map results, and you should plan your route accordingly.” ideas in one’s mind are for planning purposes only. You will find that construction {packaging} of art-sales, doubt-traffic, wellness, or other events may cause condition to differ from the {mental} map results, and you should plan {dark chocolate supplies} accordingly. ;)

mania is part of it

Sweet, crazy conversations full of half sentences, daydreams and misunderstandings more thrilling than understanding could ever be. ~Toni Morrison

652 card clip

Allow yourself the priority of writing. ~Lakin

She {my writing coach, Lakin} assured me “writing appointments” would serve me well … that commitment would not dim the sparkly-brightness of writing. I resist commitment — with great resolve. It feels “muting” and restrictive and makes me snarl {and cues a primal growl within me}. But Lakin … well, she has this way of “introducing” me to ideas that were already filed within my heart-desires — as if she knew they were there. Heck, she probably does know! ;)

Reading this week: random excerpts from Art & Fear: Observations On the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking by David Bayles and Ted Orland. [The gift my rocket man gave me on my birthday: perfect timing.]

02 art and fear

But while you may feel you’re just pretending that you’re an artist, there’s no way to pretend you’re making art. … You make good work by (among other things) making lots of work that isn’t very good, and gradually weeding out the parts that aren’t good, the parts that aren’t yours. It’s called feedback, and its the most direct route to learning about your own vision. ~Art & Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking

02 elements

… you’d rather it be your own gut, your own intuition. your own instinct rather than someone else’s will forced upon you. And with an artist, well, I reckon you make it your aim to do it all again tomorrow. And you call it brave. You call it ridiculously brave. ~my Magic Mandy

★ Each Friday, I create a small collage using a playing card and random elements. My mission is to creatively document the keywords, colors and.or lessons of each week; and create a visual mile marker of each week’s lessons.

Join me? What is something you want to accomplish? It can be a mini-goal or something you want to invest in weekly.
